Rewind Leagues Get Easier

More commish tools help redraft leagues

The Pennant Chase Newsletter

Happy almost 4th of July! Those who are into running or participating in re-wind leagues, there are some exciting new commish tools to discuss. Let’s get into it!

Sort and draft by career value

This is game-changing for re-wind leagues. Owners will now be able to view a player’s career value on the free agent or player-ranking tables. This makes draft prep about a million times easier.

The “career value” is the player’s total career WAR (baseball) or Win Share (basketball) or Approximate Value (football).

Commissioners can enable this feature by setting the “draft based on career” value on the League Settings page.

This feature also forces the CPU to pick players based on career value instead of single-season value.

Why is this a big deal? Because in re-wind leagues, owners are typically drafting rookies based on how they did over their career. But that requires clicking into their career card or going off to a third-party website.

Now you can quickly see which players in your draft class had the best overall career value.

If you forget to draft or rank players, you won’t get totally hosed in these leagues because the CPU will draft the player with the best career value who’s available.

Granted, the system isn’t totally fool-proof because if a veteran is available in the free agent pool (say, a 39-year-old Ken Griffey Junior) he would likely get auto-picked based on his high career value. But commissioner can combat this effect if they want to by setting the max age for the draft to a lower number.

I’ve already taken advantage of this new “career value” feature in two of my re-wind drafts, and I can say it’s been an amazing time-saver.
